I use "old school" engraving tools and techniques. I make most of my tools and they're basically the same as tools used by gun engravers hundreds of years ago. Firearms engraving is simply cutting softer steel with harder steel. A "graver" is a hardened piece of steel with a handle on one end,
and it doesn't get any simpler than that.
Most of the cutting is done with a relatively small hammer and a chisel.
